System Requirements

Person with Two Monitors

Before editing on Frame One, make sure that your Personal Computer and configuration meet our system requirements.

Personal Computer

Most computers will have no trouble connecting to Frame One. All personal computers should have at least 8GB of RAM and we recommend using a computer from 2013 or later.

For PCs, Windows 10 and 11 are supported. For Macs, macOS 10.15 Catalina or newer is required for the latest bug fixes and features. MacOS 10.14 Mojave is supported by our legacy installer, but does not include the latest remote editing enhancements. We recommend updating to macOS 10.15 at minimum.

Monitors

Most combinations of monitors will work perfectly, including 4K, 21:9 ultra-wide, and vertically oriented displays. Up to four monitors can be used on your remote workstation. If using more than two monitors, we recommend that your computer has at least 16GB of RAM and an ethernet connection.

Ethernet

While connecting to your workstation using Wi-Fi is possible, we recommend an ethernet connection directly to your router. A hard-wired Internet connection eliminates a number of variables that may affect playback and responsiveness on a day-to-day basis. We do not recommend powerline ethernet adapters or connecting to a non-primary node in a mesh-based wifi network, as both technologies may introduce problems. If running cable is not feasible, consider making an appointment with your ISP to move your router closer to your workspace. If you plan on remotely editing long-term, a hard-wired connection is a gift that will keep on giving.

Home Internet Speed

The connection to your remote workstation requires a small amount of bandwidth, but to ensure the smoothest experience, we recommend having at least 75 Mb/s download speed if you are alone or 150+ Mb/s if you work on a shared internet connection.

Keyboards, Mice and Trackpads

You can use a Mac or Windows keyboard to interact with your remote workstation. If you use a Mac, our software automatically remaps the command key to the control for shortcut familiarity.

Most mice and trackpads are supported on Frame One. If you plan to use an Apple Magic Mouse, trackpad, or another specialized mouse, let us know during your onboarding so we can configure your workstation to best suit you.

(Optional) Microphone Support

If your work involves recording scratch V.O., plug in a microphone and enable access during installation for direct recording capabilities on your workstation.

Other Peripherals

If your personal computer runs macOS 10.14, or Windows some USB devices like Wacom tablets may be "bridged" to your workstation. If you work with devices like this, let us know during your onboarding. At this time, USB bridge mode in not supported on macOS 10.15 or newer.

Lastly

If you have any questions about our requirements or your personal setup, consult with your project coordinator or contact Frame One Support.
